Trump Extends “Energy Destruction” Deadline to April 6 at Iran’s Request

In a high-stakes pivot, U.S. President Donald Trump has pushed back his ultimatum for striking Iran’s power grid, setting a new deadline of April 6, 2026, at 8:00 P.M. ET. Trump announced on Truth Social that the 10-day pause was granted following a direct request from the Iranian government, despite their public denials of any ongoing negotiations. He maintained that while Tehran scoffs at his 15-point ceasefire plan in the media, their negotiators are privately “begging” for a resolution.

The 2026 conflict, which began in late February, has crippled much of Iran’s military infrastructure. U.S. Central Command recently reported that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s navy has “completely lost its ability to project power” following the loss of several senior commanders. The 15-point U.S. proposal, delivered via Pakistani intermediaries, demands a total rollback of Iran’s nuclear program and the permanent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has countered with a five-point plan of its own, broadcast on state television, which includes demands for war reparations and international recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has also called for a complete halt to “assassinations” against its leadership as a prerequisite for any formal ceasefire. This clash of “red lines” has kept the region on edge, even as mediators in Pakistan and Turkey attempt to broker a face-to-face meeting.

The humanitarian crisis is reaching catastrophic levels, with over 1,900 reported deaths in Iran and 1,100 in Lebanon. More than 1.2 million people have been displaced in Lebanon alone, while 13 U.S. service members have been killed since the start of the “Epic Fury” campaign. Additionally, a recent Iranian missile strike on a base in Saudi Arabia wounded at least 10 American troops, further complicating the diplomatic landscape.

As the April 6 deadline approaches, Trump has warned that there will be “no turning back” if the 15-point plan is not accepted. He suggested that the U.S. might take control of Iran’s oil resources if a deal is not reached, a move he compared to the strategy used in Venezuela. For now, the global economy remains in suspense as the “strange” negotiators from both sides weigh their next move.
