Stokes Shuts Down Rumors, Calls Pope ‘Incredible’ as England Dominates

by admin477351

Ben Stokes has firmly dismissed media chatter questioning Ollie Pope’s place in the England side, labeling the speculation as driven by “an agenda.” The England captain spoke out following the team’s thumping victory over Zimbabwe by an innings and 45 runs, in which Pope was one of three century-makers.

Stokes emphasized Pope’s importance not just as a player, but as a trusted deputy. “He’s my vice-captain and he’s been incredible,” Stokes said, making it clear that Pope’s place was never under threat. Stokes clarified that his earlier remarks about Jacob Bethell were misconstrued, adding Bethell would only return to the squad, not the starting XI.

Another standout performer was Shoaib Bashir, whose nine-wicket haul, including six for 81 in the second innings, earned high praise. Stokes called the 21-year-old’s rise “scary” in the best sense, noting his mix of height, spin, and tactical growth.
